英文要約Title: Development of Technology for Raw Material Production, Supply and Fuel Pellet Production

Supplying low cost and stable biomass fuel with a high energy density and stable quality is essential to promoting biomass power generation. Reduced transportation and storage costs are a priority issue because biomass is distributed in wide areas, has low bulk density and is seasonal.
Agricultural residues of multiple types and herbaceous plants cultivated on unused land in small areas are being utilized for the development of biomass production and supply system. Multiple types of biomass are being processed using fuel pellet manufacturing technology developed in this research and development.
Although there is much agriculture residues, it is difficult to utilize for biomass fuel pellet directly because agriculture residues have high water content. Result of drying tests of residues indicated that there were two types of residues. One type of residues was easily dried by sunlight before rain. Other type of residues was difficult to dry by sunlight.
The unused agricultural residues have a merit such as not competing with food production, but there are problems that there is little quantity to collect from the certain area. It is possible to reduce the collection area by cultivating high yield herbaceous plants, Napier grass, on the unused land in the certain area. Three kinds of tree for paper manufacture and three kinds of tree for timber were selected to cultivate with Napier grass between tree rows for cultivation test of next year.
Some kind of agricultural residues need coarse crushing before pelletizing. It is necessary to optimize the crushing size because the load of pelleting machine increases if the crushing size is too rough. The coarse crusher was studied and produced for the examination with pelletizer.
Die for pelletizer was designed to mold pellet from several kinds of material for molding test of next year. Thickness of die, shape and size of molding hole is related to the keeping temperature of die and stability of molding.
Pellet production facility with loading facility was designed to establish the production condition of pellet from several kinds of materials. The size of total production facility was considered to fit the maximum size of container for shipping abroad.
Some of agricultural residues was analyzed the heat value and component to adapt to biomass power generation. Variation between materials was wide; heating value was 17.4 - 21.2 MJ/kg, Density of chlorine was 0.04 - 0.7 %, sulfur was 0.03 - 0.3 %, sodium was 0.01 - 0.1%, potassium was 0.2 - 4.0%, and ash was 0.4 - 11%. The heating value was correlated to carbon density, was not correlated to ash content.
