英文要約Title:Innovative Recognition Systems for autonomous driving (FY2014-FY2015) FY2014 Annual Report

Final goal of this project is to realize ultimately energy-effective transportation system which cuts CO2 emission by 25% via developing innovative technologies for autonomous driving, which is impossible to be developed with the current technology. These innovative technologies are divided into three key issues: (1) development of a molecular inertial gyroscope such that a car can always grasp its exact location, (2) development of a spectroscopic imager for accurate and regular recognition of the car’s surrounding environment, and (3) development of an algorithm of visual recognition with high accuracy. In order to evaluate feasibility of these three unprecedented technologies by taking actual driving environments into consideration, three groups shared subjects as listed below:
(1) Evaluation of basic principles: by National University Corporation, The university of Tokyo
(2) Technical estimation for practical applications: by General Incorporated Foundation, Micromachine Center
(3) Evaluation and analysis of actual environments: by Denso Corporation.

In this year, we started investigations on design and dimensions of microscopic structures of both the molecular inertial gyroscope and the spectroscopic imager. Numerical calculations were performed for these investigations to derive promising dimensional parameters of the device designs. A list of check points for implementing the image processing algorithm was started to be investigated. In addition, to estimate the technologies’ applicability for the practical use, we also started to design fabrication processes for the device production, and investigated effective parameters to enhance device performances. Finally, several environmental conditions were started to be examined to be selected as boundary conditions for device design. Because it is necessary to describe the actual conditions in a quantitative manner, evaluation criteria of environment characteristics was also started to be examined.
