(1) Improvement of Collecting and Breaking Unused Wood Residues: Improvement of radio-controlled system and development of full automation system was conducted in order to collect wood residues by using unmanned small truck loader. Fixed 3D cameras were replaced with movable ones in order to improve the control feeling of the machine. Beamforming devices which enabled to make the distance of radio transmission longer were also installed on the machines. In terms of automation, running test with teaching method was conducted. In addition to this, we started developing another method of running machine with reading RFID tags on the road. Tag readers had been already installed, and now software is being developed. Attaching iron shoe on the crawler type of truck loader helped running on the steep slope. For the safety, alert devices (lumps and voice functions) were also attached. (2) Drying Wood Chips: In FY2013, the wood chips we used in this test were 90% moisture content (dry-based) and the heat for drying was made by both exhaust gas and steam of the boiler. But in FY2014, in order to save energy and cost, we used the air-dried (50% moisture content) chips and got the heat only by exhaust gas. As a result, the production of 25% moisture content chips was 279kg/h, and the cost was 2,489yen/t, so there were quite differences between the results and the targets (750kg/h and 1,400yen/t). However, we estimated that the production and the cost could have reached the targets if the size of drying machine had been expanded by 2.7 times. (3) Multiform Biomass Gasification Power Generation: (3-a) Gas Purification Unit Improvements: In FY2014, efficiency was improved. Previously the cleaning rate of the unit was once every 20 hrs. As of March 2015, post improvements, after 98hrs cleaning isn’t required. (3-b) Flare Stack Improvements: In FY2014, to reduce LPG consumed when burning, flare stack improvements were made. Previously, consumption was 3.2m3 for 8hrs of operation. As of March 2015, post improvements, 1.04m3 for 8 hrs. (3-c) Durability Research: There are periodic equipment inspections and maintenance intervals are evaluated. As of July 2014, after 660hrs of operation, there were no issues in all of the equipment including the feed stock tank and feed stock conveyer.
