(FY2014-FY2015) FY2014 Annual Report

(1) Precedent research: FY2014 research was conducted though site visits and literatures of existing geothermal power plants within Japan to understand the layouts of cooling towers, pipe lines, and other such items. The research showed how each component is placed in consideration to the local natural environment and landscape.

(2) Development of patterns: The results of research in placing each component were further studied through an ecological landscape point of view. Additional improvement techniques were derived from the site visit, and these techniques are developed into in “Collection of Patterned Techniques”. Hints and tips are gathered for developers and operators to design a geothermal power generation plant as an example of good practice. Hereafter, the team will enrich the collection by examining and improving its content as well as including the results from the precedent research.

(3) Developing the methods for analyzing natural environment and landscape:
Visibility analysis for the visited plants was conducted using existing map software, KASHMIR 3D, which is based on Digital Elevation Model of Geospatial Information Authority of Japan. Challenges for developing landscape analytical methods were understood by comparing the visibility analysis results and the existing plan conditions. More information has been collected regarding adaptable methods of analyzing natural environments and landscapes. Hereafter, utilizing GIS technology, the team is planning to develop an analytical method for the visualization of conservation importance. Also, in order to develop the landscape analytical method, the team is crystalizing the visibility analysis and clarifying the identification of major viewpoints.

(4) Development of application in trial edition for supporting ecological landscape:
The design aiding tool is under development. The tool is created utilizing the ecological landscape methods for "Design methods to promote developments in considerations of local natural environments and landscapes". In FY2014, the requirement definitions, which are necessary for the creation of a trial version of the software, have been organized per each subject as well as its development schedule.
