For a past decade, there has been growing attention for CO2 separation or capture from flue gases due to the particular importance in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and in preserving environmental heath. In this study, using the novel Ultra-high gas separation Membrane containing non-porous nanoparticles having gas permeable nano-space formed by introducing functional groups onto the surface of silica, we investigated the significant CO2 reduction from flue gases. In order to synthesize surface-modified silica nanoparticles, a microwave synthesis device was applied. The device enabled the surface modification reaction in much shorter time compared with the conventional synthetic procedure. As a matrix polymer for the composite membrane, polymers for intrinsic microporosity (PIM-1) was synthesized with appropriate molecular weight and distribution. Additionally, in order to develop an organic solvent resistance nanofiber sheet for gas separation membranes, fundamental experiments were performed. A direction of material design and its spinnability were confirmed.
