1. Results of research and developmen

(1) Preliminary experiments to study a basic dispensing process

To determine the basic process of gel molding with a dispenser, a simple 3D gel modeling apparatus with an injecting nozzle and an UV irradiation device was constructed. The basic UV irradiation and dispensing process were validated with this apparatus.


(2) Development of a first prototype of 3D gel modeling

Based on the results of the simple modeling with the verification device, we developed a first prototype (named Version Zero). With this device, a new driving unit equipped with ball screw and AC servomotor is introduced.


(3) Examination of 3D printing gel materials and their optimized extrusion/deposition conditions

As a first example, we chose a gel material with a shore hardness of 50A and investigated its best extrusion and deposition conditions with the prototype. To search the best conditions, some simple 3D structures were test-printed with many combinations of parameters for extrusion and deposition.


(4) Introduction of the second-generation prototypes for the acceleration of examination process

To accelerate the optimization of printing conditions, two new prototypes (Version One) were developed. These prototypes were improved based on the results of the first prototype (Version Zero) and their device configurations were modified in consideration of the working efficiency. We expect that with these apparatuses we will be able to move on to the next development phase in a short period of time.
