1. Contents of joint research and result
1) Developing of system which resists to rough sea phenomena
Simple and safety structure of device which could resist to 50 year wave without automatic ballast system for float was developed. Furthermore, by-pass chain were introduced against a main chain cut at weak mooring part in order to prevent device from drifting.
2) Confirmation of power generation performance at final design shape
Base on the result of water tank test that simulated an actual sea field condition, resonance control has made possible 30-35% of synthesis generation efficiency for a small wave (2m or less). Therefore achievement of 40% efficiency which was commercial target began to look practicable by further improvement.
3) High accuracy simulation for sea phenomena
For a conventional simulation model of sea phenomena (wave height and period of each spot), influence of small island and detail shore topography in the model could be considered. As a result, dumping of wave height by influence of figure of model was improved, and it was possible to associate with observation data.
4) Establishment of installation method at actual sea field
Two steps installation method of power generation device using a crane ship was thought up in order to install the device in the appropriate depth of the water (the surface of the water). And work characteristics and procedure were inspected using a crane ship model and water tank at tidal and wave conditions.
5) Explanation to an interested party and knowledgeable person
The Council concerned took place two times in order to agree with an interested party and knowledgeable person about contents of this project. Continuously this kind of council will be performed for information sharing and exchange of opinions.
6) Progress of the design work
Countermeasure for 50 year wave height and necessary structure for two steps installation were reflected to the present design of power generation device.
