英文要約Title: Research and Technical Developments on next generation Ocean Energy Generator (Counter-Rotating Type Tidal Stream Power Unit) (FY2013-FY2015) FY2014 Annual Report

To utilize effectively several types of tidal stream in ocean, a counter-rotating type power unit, composed of tandem propellers and a double rotational type generator, has been developed with accompanying managements and constructions of tidal stream power plants. The power efficiency has met 36% higher than the target 35% of this year, through the following progresses and fruits in this year.
1. Exploitation of offshore streams
To generate the power from artificial tidal streams, circumstances of tip currents, reef currents and tidal range flows have been observed. The tip current has been generated artificially in a laboratory, and a power plant was designed on trial. The current is induced from an inclined seabed with V shape trench, and then a reasonable embankment makes the current velocity faster. The propeller should be set at close to the sea surface in the power station.
2. Development of tandem propellers
Acceptable material and framework of the propeller blades have been designed, that is, the blade elements/framework made from SST is surrounded with FRP sheets. An interacting frequency in the tandem propellers is obviously less than sympathetic vibrations of the blade and a static distortion is tiny even at the blade tip.
Hydraulic efficiency of the tandem propellers could be improved on over to the highest level in the world, by optimizing not only the blade element but also the lift-drag distribution in the blade height. Besides, experiments in a wind and a water tunnels derive that it is important to know effects of the Reynolds number and undersea noises.
3. Development of generator with double rotational armatures
Cooling system with a heat pipe has been developed, which makes not only ambient but also winding temperatures in the submerged generator decrease drastically. A new type generator, which is composed of not only this cooling system but also of a rotational field system with higher density of the magnetic flux and the rotational armature with lower copper losses, has also been designed. Besides, a mechanical sealing system, which creates tight seal around the generator, has been provided fruitfully for the model power unit, to protect the electric circuit from seawater.
4.Suppression of hydrodynamic vibrations
To suppress the vibration of the power unit, the software, which can predict the vibration induced from tip and sheet cavitations, has been developed with accompanying verification tests in the water tunnel. And then, the rotating dynamics of the annular shaft system with the propellers, bearings and mechanical seals has been predicted successfully. The tip vortex shedding from the front blade hardly interact the rear propeller whose diameter is smaller than the front diameter, but the skew of the front blade may bring the vibration.
