Contents and Results
1.Resource measurement
The resource measurement around Kuchinoshima island in Kagoshima prefecture and off the coast of cape Shionomisaki in Wakayama prefecture were carried out.
(1)Around Kuchinoshima island in Kagoshima prefecture
a. Measurement of ocean current velocity distribution
Measurement of velocity distribution was carried out to determine the place where the buoy system for the long term measurement of ocean current velocity would be installed.
The measurement was carried out by Kagoshima-maru of Kagoshima university using ADCP(Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler) installed at ship bottom.
The roots for current velocity measurement were root in the sea around Kuchinoshima island and off shore root between Kuchinoshima island and Yakushima island.
The measurement in these roots were carried out in April,2014.
By the measurement the valuable data about current velocity distribution and velocity profile in depth direction was obtained.
The point for long term measurement was determined according to the data of current velocity distribution.

b. long term measurement at fixed point
The buoy system for long term current velocity measurement was installed at the position determined above on June 8
and the system was recovered on August 29.
The current data was successfuly collected and analyzed. The average velocity over the whole measurement period was 0.73m/s and there are some kind of current
velocity variation. The long-period variation was caused by the movement of current axis and the short-period variation was the effect of tidal current.

(2)Measurement of ocean current velocity off the coast of cape Shionomisaki
The velocity distribution in west-east direction at 5km and 27km from the shore was measured in January and March.
As a whole the velocity on the line at 27km away from shore was larger than that of 5km away.
The maximum velocity was about 1.8m/s and this point is suitable for ocean currnent generation firm.

2.Towing and generation test
(1)Detail design fo test equipment
The equipment for towing and generation test was designed. The design load was calculated by the integration model.
To calculate the design load several operation mode were considered and the transient behavior was simulated
by the integration model.

(2)Preliminary test on the ground
To confirm the actuation of the euipment one drive train system was built and preliminary test was carried out.
The torque generated by the blade was simulated by the servomotor and the drive train was operated.
The smooth actuation of drive tain was confirmed by this preliminary test.

(3)Test planning
The plan for towing and generation test was studied and the candidate site was listed.
The coordination with prefecture government and Japan Coast Guard is currently underway.
