In order to develop a safe and adequate system, we evaluated the effect of back-filtrated infusion on the solute removal in intermittent infusion hemodiafiltration (I-HDF) this year. Solute clearance of the hemodiafilter decreased with an increase in back-filtration flow rate, and its tendency was remarkable in larger molecules because their removal strongly depends on the convective transport due to back-filtration. However, its clinical impact would be negligible. To clarify the validity of the I-HDF, we would like to evaluate the effects of intermittent infusion pattern on solute clearance of the hemodiafilter and the improvement of peripheral circulation of the patient.
To establish a dialysis-dose monitor for uremic toxins contained in the spent dialysate, we also improved a prototype dialysis monitor using ultraviolet LED. We examined the performance of the prototype monitor using spent dialysate harvested by clinical hemodialysis treatments. Currently, we will also develop a navigation algorithm necessary to feedback to an optimal treatment conditions.
