We, Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Science Research Co., Ltd., report below our result of the research and development in the first year. 1) Research and development of the high power coefficient vertical axis type straight line blade.
We have carried out the performance test in circular water channel of four pieces blades by two types and have confirmed that the type with thick blade was superior in blade performance. Also, we have carried out a fluid power measurement of single blade by the performance test in circular water channel and have confirmed that some range of the rotary angle disturb the blade performance enhancement. Regarding the computer simulation of blade performance, we have carried out two-dimensional CFD analysis and have confirmed the distribution of pressure and flow velocity. 2) Research and development of additional performance improvement device. We have carried out the performance test in circular water channel of four pieces blades which added inner flaps as the additional device and have confirmed that power coefficient Cp is 15% improved in comparison with without flaps. 3) Research and development of the implantation-style steel structure. We have carried out framework strength calculation as rough external force by the tide power and have determined rough structure issues. For the purpose of saving the setting cost and maintenance cost, we adopted steel structure having the ballast tank. Regarding the estimation of the significant wave height for steel structure design, we have calculated that height by using the past measurement data and the wave prediction curves. 4) Topography information and tide investigation in the proof examination sea area. We have performed the seafloor topography investigation by the echo-sounding device and a tide investigation by ADCP. As the results of these investigation, we have confirmed that 50-150m north area from Oshima Ohashi bridge is wide and flat, and the tide velocity is earlier than other area. 5) Research and development of low rotation high efficiency inside permanent magnet type multipolar generator. We have designed the small size generator model, and also, have simulated the generator output characteristics and have visualized magnetic field distribution with 3D magnetic field analysis software ANSYS Maxwell. 6) Research and development of high efficiency power convertors for tidal current power generation system. We have researched the problem to be solved to the power convertors for tidal current power generation system.
