英文要約Title: Model Project for Ethanol Production from Molasses in a Sugar Factory (FY2010-FY2012) FY2011 Annual Report

In this model project, bioethanol will be produced from molasses generated in the sugar production process. The project will add value to sugar cane as a renewable energy resource, and simultaneously improve the profitability of the sugar factory. The ethanol from molasses production process involves a technique developed in Japan called repeated batch fermentation method with agglomerated yeast. The employed yeast has the characteristic of being agglomerated and settles after the fermentation period. It can be utilized repeatedly through several fermentation batches. The fermentation process is as follows. The molasses and agglomerated yeast are fed into the fermentation column; fermentation is carried out for 48 hours. During the fermentation period, the yeast gradually settles to the bottom of the column, and finally the broth (the fermented liquid) is separated from the agglomerated yeast in the column. After the broth is discharged to the evaporation unit, a fresh batch of molasses is again fed into the column as the feedstock for the next batch. The agglomerated yeast stays in the column after the broth has been separated. This agglomerated yeast can be utilized for up to ten batches. After ten batches have been completed, the yeast/mud sludge is discharged into a separator unit. The ethanol recovered in the unit is returned to the evaporation process, and the dewatered sludge is discharged and utilized as fertilizer, animal feed, etc. The ethanol plant will be constructed at Gempolkrep factory of PTPN X, Japan and Indonesia will cooperate carrying out this model project such as demonstration operation. This model project from FY2010 to FY2012 has these works as follows; 1.Site Survey/Concluding the Implementation Document, 2.Design work, 3.Equipment Fabrication/Transportation, 4.Supervising for Installation/Operation, 5.Demonstration operation, 6.Dissemination. In FY2011, we carried out these works from 2 to 4. 2.Design Work; For Japan scope equipment, we finished the detail design work for fabrication. For local counterpart in Indonesia, we prepared and submitted the basic drawing required for construction planning such as piping route plan, control system plan and assembly drawing of process main equipment. 3.Equipment Fabrication/Transportation; we finished both fabrication and transportation work for all the Japan scope equipment except for knockdown type such as fermentation tanks and storage tanks. These knockdown type equipment have been fabricated at the construction site since the end of November in 2011. 4.Supervising for Installation/Operation; At construction site, Japan scope equipment had started to be installed. We dispatched Japanese installation supervisors. Also we planned to dispatch the Japanese supervisors for operation after the mechanical completion in the middle of October in 2012.
