The threshold stress intensity factors, KIH, for SNCM439 steel were measured in high-pressure gaseous hydrogen using both the rising load method and the constant displacement method. The KIH values under the rising-load method were less than the KIH values under the constant-displacement method.
In order to establish the effects of non-metal inclusions on fatigue properties, fatigue tests in a hydrogen environment were performed. A heat-treatment test for conditioning strength was conducted and the non-metal inclusions of the steel were measured.
The preparation of a guideline for hydrogen storage tanks was started with JPEC and Kyushu University. The technical issues in the production were extracted.
