A new generation of concentrator photovoltaic cells, modules and systems (NGCPV) (FY2011-FY2014) FY2013 Annual Report

More than 50 CPV modules developed by international collaboration were sent to testing laboratories. Components of those CPV modules were sent to research partners for precise evaluation of the developed technology.
The DFK optics including dome-shaped Fresnel lens and secondary optical element were prototyped and improved. The optical efficiency of the new dome-shaped Fresnel lens was 89.1 % with coating. The secondary optical element was re-designed and optical efficiency improved 3 points. Optical alignment was improved and measured misalignment was within 0.2 mm. The heat resistance of the receiver, measured as small as 0.28 K/W heat resistance, was obtained and expected lifetime (5 % failure) is more than 69 years. More than 50 modules were prototyped using commercial cells. The averaged module efficiency was 31.3 % and the ratio between standard deviation and average was only 1.1 %. These modules are examined by both Europe and domestic research laboratory including long-term outdoor test.
