Item 1: Task Development of DARPA Robotics Challenge (DRC)
The latest robot needs and technologies have been investigated by examining some latest reports of the disaster response robots in Japan. Based on the investigation, the Japanese requests to the response robots have been introduced to DRC organizers.
Item 2: Standardization of Disaster Response Robot Performance
In order to contribute the development of Standard performance Test Method(STM) of the response robots and the associated test fields, the activities of the project here have been introduced the international and local standardization communities through several standard and academic meetings.
The test facilities to measure the response robot performances have been developed to obtain concrete data for the standardization.
Item 3: Task Development of Japan Virtual Robotics Challenge(JVRC)
The JVRC tasks have been developed, where the task scenario is “For a tunnel, the routine inspection and the disaster response are carried out via the identical robot.”. The JVRC tasks have been tried to be harmonized with the DRC tasks in order to extend the robot technologies obtained in DRC.
Item 4: Simulator Task Model Development of JVRC
For the JVRC tasks developed in Item 3, the corresponding simulator task models have been created for the robot simulator “Choreonoide” developed by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology(AIST). The associated development environment of tasks and robot in the robot simulator has been facilitated.
