A) Development of a basic high-speed sensor network system
This research aims to develop a basic high-speed sensor network system
which is composed of high-speed visions, sensors and processing elements.
This year we have:
1) explored network specifications and functions to perform time synchronization of each sensor node.
In addition, we have also explored a network communication technique that enables us to achieve
the goal of this research.
2) decided on a protocol for the time synchronization based on the result of 1) and
designed the basic architecture for a high-speed sensor network system.
3) proposed an algorithm for the time synchronization and data acquisition synchronization
of the high-speed sensor network system.
We plan to evaluate the proposed basic high-speed sensor network system. Furthermore, we plan to
discuss the feasibility of implementing a large-scale system through experimental results.

B) Analysis and evaluation about a feasibility of human interface
The goal of this project is to design/analyze and evaluate the prototype of the parallel networked
human interface system based on the multiple EGS (Exvision Gesture System) camera modules with
the small computing unit connected via the high speed sensor network system being developed by
Ishikawa Watanabe laboratory of University of Tokyo. We are currently estimating the data transfer
rate to be required to achieve this system and based on this estimation, we are evaluating various
small computing units and multiple display systems that can be used for this prototype study.

C) Research and development promotion committee
We held a research and development promotion committee meeting in March where we reported
the activities of this project. We discussed the agenda of the June meeting of the joint
research promotion committee.
