1. Research and Development: Content and Result
(1) Development of Ecological Landscape Method
1) Precedent research
Precedent research has continued as a continuation of FY2014. Site visits and literature researches have been completed for eight domestic and three foreign power stations. Mitigation methods were understood through studying the layout of cooling towers, pipe lines, access roads, and other components.
2) Development of patterns
Results of precedent research were developed into “patterns” of mitigation methods from ecological point of view. In terms of creating the patterns, preliminary version was created at the end of FY2014. In FY2015, more patterns were created through additional precedent researches. The collection will be completed by evaluation of existing patterns and additional ones from more visits.
3) Development of Environmental Analysis
Process of Environmental Analysis was refined to understand the important environmental resources of targeted area as a part of utilizing ecological landscape design methods. The process includes the use of GIS. It has been examined through case studies for applicability, rooms for improvement and so on.
4) Development of Landscape Analysis
Process of Landscape Analysis was clarified for landscape mitigation. The process includes 3D modeling of environmental analysis, two versions of visibility analyses, potential site selection, landscape visibility study with planned layout, site-scale environmental analysis and grading/drainage simulations.
5) Case studies with Ecological Landscape Method
Two sites were selected for case study purpose. One has been completed through potential site selection. The rest of Landscape Analysis is going to occur and to be examined throughout the FY2016 as well as for the other site.
(2) Development of supporting software for Ecological Landscape Method
Items below were studied to create supporting software in order to help employing Ecological Landscape Methods for a development of geothermal plant.
1) 3D vegetation models
Based on existing domestic vegetation, types of trees were selected and some were developed into 3D models.
2) 3D power station models
In order to create virtual reality model of geothermal station, some components were created in 3D. By using the model, planned station and its landscape can be observed from arbitrary points as a guide to examine site planning phase.
