Coal-fired Power Project in India (2015-2016) FY2015 Annual Report

This feasibility study is to survey on the existing power plant site and surrounding areas of NTPC’s Badarpur Thermal Power Station located within National Capital Territory of Delhi, in view of identifying technical specification required for construction of coal-fired power plant with more than 2x660MW capacity, environmental measures and its financial feasibility.

Series of surveys were conducted by Japanese expert team at Badarpur Thermal Power Station in November 2015, January and March 2016.
Proposed major specification includes 2 x 660MW rated output with main steam pressure of 27 ata, main steam temperature of 600 deg.C, and reheat steam temperature of 600 deg.C. at turbine inlet. New plant will fully meet the new environmental norms issued by MOEF&CC to address comprehensive environmental facilities such as SCR, FGD and ESP with 150m stack as being limited to the existing stack height by aviation restrictions .
Ash disposal area is considered to be most suitable for new plant construction from the view point of minimization of total project period, current plant demolition and coal yard expansion.
Water treatment taken from Agra canal is thought to be an essential issue to be addressed for new plant O&M, installation of DCS for new plant is also required. Consideration of high voltage switch yard is underway.
Project emission amount is calculated by using coal consumption amount and emission factor of coal, i.e. project CO2 emission amount(tCO2/y)is 8,313,663 tCO2 / year. Installation of USC is expected to bring significant reduction of CO2 emission factor.

Further study is in progress to complete the feasibility study by conducting detailed technical analyses and financial estimation.
This joint feasibility study is recognized as one of the bilateral cooperation project in India power sector in 8th India-Japan Energy ministerial dialogue which has been held on January 12th, 2016 in Tokyo.
