In IGCC system, it is expected that net thermal efficiency will improve, when cold gas efficiency increases by adding steam to a gasifier for steam gasification to reduce supplied oxygen for partial combustion. But, it was already found that the design of steam injection and the estimation of tar formation should be essential, because the way of injecting steam would affect the flow condition in a gasifier and the improvement of the cold gas efficiency would cause the fall of the temperature in a gasifier. It is also important to reduce auxiliary power by adopting a high-efficiency oxygen production technology. Then, the feasibility of IGCC system with these technologies will be evaluated in this project.
In FY 2015, the preparation for the gasification test with adding steam has been started. The available conditions for the operation of a gasifier were grasped, and the three-dimensional numerical-analysis model of the gasifier was built to examine the test conditions. The fundamental study on the gasification reaction model applied to the numerical-analysis technique was also started. Regarding a high-efficiency oxygen production technology, the status of the pilot plant developed by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. in US was investigated. For system analysis of an IGCC plant, process conditions in hot-gas purification process are also important. The process conditions to avoid the carbon deposit on desulphurization catalyst by adding excessive steam to a gasifier were calculated roughly.
