Development of an innovative blast furnace operation with low carbon consumption including an injection of coke oven gas (COG), reformed COG, and adjusted blast furnace gas (BFG) have been focused on. Operational conditions of an experimental blast furnace were designed based on the result of laboratory tests and mathematical model simulations. To ensure the operations, the quality of burden materials such as charging coke and sinter, and the injection lance for multi-injection system for pulverized coal, COG and adjusted BFG have been designed for the experimental blast furnace.- The durability of hydrogen production from tar in coke oven gas with a catalytic reforming and regeneration process was investigated. The new catalytic reactor was developed and applied to the bench scale plant (BP2) at Muroran works. The construction work and trial run of the BP2 was completed.- Coke improvement technology was investigated. A strategy has been proposed to make high strength coke as high as DI(150/15) 88, making use of the high-performance caking additive (HPC) with low coal charging density at 0.73 g/cm3 and simultaneously to control coke reactivity CRI from 20 to 40. The model was applied to the evaluation of total CO2 mitigation values in case of reactivity change of coke, shaft injection , future energy prices. Total summation of CO2 mitigation of integrated steel mill was described by several scenarios. 12 themes of "new technical creation researches" are now developing. -Development of CO2 capture technologies. Development of novel chemical absorbents are in progress including catalysts to facilitate CO2 capture, biphasic absorbents, and mixed-solvents absorbents. Several kinds of adsorbents were tested at new bench scale CO2-PSA with 2-layer adsorption towers.- The temperature efficiency of the developed micro-channel heat exchanger for low-temperature off-gas was measured and confirmed to be over the target (66%) and its CFD model was alo established. For the heat recovery of slag, draft specification of the heat recovery system with 60 t-slag/h was determined.- The Development of Process Evaluation Technology Using the Experimental Blast Furnace. For the fiscal year 2015, the construction of an experimental blast furnace was finished based on a detail design as scheduled. The cold and two hot trial runs of the experimental blast furnace, one of the hot trial runs was done in cooperation with CAT30, were also executed as scheduled. As a result, the development of process evaluation technology using the experimental blast furnace is ready for the operation beginning from the fiscal year 2016.- The model was applied to the evaluation of total CO2 mitigation values in case of reactivity change of coke, shaft injection , future energy prices.
