Objective:
It is essential to conduct research and development to shorten hydrogen filling time to the hydrogen storage system equipped with the high-pressure hydrogen vessel on FCV, preventing over filling in safe and appropriate manner. Domestic standards relating to hydrogen filling consistent with the international standardization processes are to be developed.

Japan Petroleum Energy Center (JPEC) has cooperated with The Research Association of Hydrogen Supply/Utilization Technology (HySUT), Saga University, Kyushu University, and Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI), to promote the themes listed below.

Sub-theme 1: Drafting of revised domestic standards and its enactment. (HySUT, JPEC)
Sub-theme 2: Harmonization of international standards with domestic standards through international cooperation. (HySUT, JARI)
sub-theme 3: Filling technology development / demonstration data obtained. (HySUT, JARI, Saga University (FY2013), Kyushu University (FY2014 -))
Sub-theme 4: Data acquisition of hydrogen transport properties for high-accurate filling simulation. (Kyushu University)

Results in 2015 FY:

Sub-theme 1: Drafting of revised domestic standards and its enactment. (HySUT, JPEC)

To establish the technical foundation to develop domestic standards relating to secure, proper and swift hydrogen filling at hydrogen stations.

(1) Development of hydrogen technologies standards and voluntary standards:JPEC

Development of technical standard for hydrogen refueling to 70MPa container installed on international vehicle fueled by compressed hydrogen has been carried out in JPEC. Technical review committee for voluntary standard for compressed hydrogen refueling was formed by JPEC and the draft of the voluntary standard numbered JPEC-S 0003(2014) based on international standard numbered SAE J2601 was developed through the discussion from the technological view point in the committee.
This year, Development of technical standard for hydrogen refueling to 70 MPa class FC bus introduced 2020 for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics has been carried out in JPEC.
Based on the results of last year formulated the JPEC-S 0003 (2014), the voluntary standards for refueling to FC bus at hydrogen refueling station for FCV was developed.
As a result, it was revised as the JPEC voluntary standards (JPEC-S 0003 (2016)).
