(1) Specifications of the prototype of High Performance Electrochemical Machine
Specifications of the power supply to machine difficult-to-machine material such as sintered carbide is investigated.
First, relationship between the frequency of the current and machining speed was investigated. According to the result of this experiment, the higher the frequency, the slower the machining speed is. It is because of the precipitation of Co.
Next, relationship between the duty, which is defined as the ratio of workpiece positive polarity, and the machining speed was investigated. According to the experiment, the machining speed is fastest when the duty is around 70%, but in this conditions Co is eluted too much and it cannot be used in practical usage. To solve this problem, it was shown that the addition of the metal ions, such as Co ion or Fe ion is effective.

(2) Design and production of ECM prototype machine
ECM prototype machine was designed based on the experimental result. As an base machine an commercial EDM machine was used and it was modified to add needed functions as an ECM machine. The bipolar power supply for ECM was designed and produced. It is made of full-bridge IGBT (insulated gate bipolar transistor) circuit and it can supply bipolar pulse current as well as DC current.

(3) Design and build of experimental apparatus for micro ECM
Experimental apparatus for micro ECM was designed and produced. And the results of the theme so far have been tried to apply electrochemical grinding.
