Interim report

Two dispensing 3D printer test-use machine ("Dispensing type") are installed in Yamagata University and one "Dispensing type" is installed in Kanagawa Science Park (KSP). We have reached the target resolution of "Dispensing type", 500um, ahead of schedule. In next fiscal year, a multi dispenser model has been designed and prepared for producing. Another type of printer, bathtub type 3D gel prototype printers ("Bathtub type") are also developed at the same time. We successfully made intraocular lenses, scaffold for cells, and several tiny models by using "Bathtub type". We had several important updates for "Dispensing type", change of ultra violet (UV) light (from Panasonic Co., Ltd. to Hamamatsu Photonics K.K.), install of gel material supplier, thermostatic controller, nozzle cleaner, and new control panel for more efficient and precise model making. Many gel material synthesises have been done. For "Dispensing type", one of problem was a viscosity of gel materials. The viscosity effects to modeling accuracy and removability of shell of the model. To fix these problems, we prepared lots of sample gel materials and got most efficient one. Gels for "Bathtub type" had another type of problems. We controlled amounts of absorbed UV light by changing chemical compaunds ratio and finally got appropriate one. Other issues for developing gel printers are computer softwares. Two type computer softwares are developed. One of software supplies making STL data which includes shell material of the model. Other software is a lamination simulation software by "Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method". We implemented these softwares, and these softwares help making model by "Dispensing type". To examine internal structures of gel, 3D scanner has been developed. We are implementing new software for controlling 3D scanner. Other than analysis parts (laser, gonio-meter, and scanning control) are implemented using 1D scanner. In the next fiscal year, analysis parts are implemented. These softwares are also used for 3D scanner. Furthermore, "Test-use laboratory" is opened by us in Yamagata University. Around 100 visitors visited this laboratory and this laboratory is announced by Japan broadcasting corporation (NHK). Also there were some inquiries of this laboratory. However, because current system and manpowers are limited, managements of this laboratory have still lots of problems about safety intellectual property system and financial flexibilities. Because of this problems, we are preparing new private venture company. We had lots of discussions about the company and promising plans.
