Despite high expectation for manufacturing innovation triggered by additive manufacturing, its outlook is still unclear. To realize the innovation through the technology, this project will overcome the obstacles in front of that. In the project, we will make three improvements in product concept, design tool and process capability. Results of 2015 FY are following.
1. Improvement in process capability
Aiming at process of super engineering plastic, Poly-phenylene Sulfide (PPS) as a low-end super engineering plastic was tested. As an intermediate goal for this year, a high relative density more than 75% was achieved as an intermediate goal for this year.
2. Improvement in product concept
A high style sport prosthesis as a milestone product to indicate the strength of AM technology, was prototyped with selective laser sintering, an AM technology. After variety of mechanical tests were performed to confirm its technical safeness, a real paralympic athlete wore the prosthesis and made a test run.
3. Improvement in design tool
A design tool was developed with a cooperation of a prosthesis technician. The design tool was tested in fabrication of a prosthesis. Thanks to the new GUI function of the tool and AM technology, labor time of the technician was successfully compressed to 25%. CAE function was also embedded in the new tool.
