Engineer education for power electronics
Next generation power electronics project for achieving low carbon consumption society

1. Project organization
Three committees for Management, Evaluation and Curriculum were organized. By these committees, the school design was developed.
2. School Project Design
Target: Leveling up the ability for viewing the entire power electronics.
Extending the engineer’s potential capable to innovate the power electronics by means of the imagination for exceeding the theoretical limit.
Methods:
Learning, touching, designing, feeling and understanding the basic theories of semiconductor materials, devices, packaging, wiring and processes for power electronics, with visiting the laboratories and factories.
Staff: Professors, engineers and researchers currently developing the advanced power electronics. Many lecturers are the core members of KAMOME Project.
Participants:
Engineers having great motivation.
Engineers joining the power electronic field from the other engineering fields.
Contents:
(1) Basic course
Summer and winter Seasons (twice a year)
5 days, within 20 participants
Lectures (morning) and Experiments (afternoon)
Subjects: Learning and experiencing the basic principles of switching, transforming and regulating the electric power. The applications of solar cells and pm motor drive are additional topics.
(2) Advanced course
Winter season
6 days, within 20 participants
Lectures and visiting the research and development laboratories.
Subjects: Learning the wide band gap (WBG) semiconductors, such as silicon carbide (SiC) and its applications. Technological main stream from design to fabrication (materials, devices, packaging, thermal management, circuit simulation, and reliability) is studied in detail.

Informing the companies and the organizations about the advanced power electronics engineer school project.
Preparing and starting the Basic and the Advanced courses accompanying the education quality evaluation.
Adjusting and optimizing the curriculums of the Basic and Advanced courses for 2017.
