3.Evaluation and Analysis on the Metals and Alloys for Hydrogen Environment

The previous data of basic mechanical properties in hydrogen environment on low alloy steels such as SCM435 and SNCM439 were analyzed and reflected to the preparation for the establishment of “The guideline for the use of low alloy steels in hydrogen environment” which is in progress organized mainly by the JPEC collaborated with Kyushu University and also Japan Steel Works, a member of the JRCM group.
How to solve the problems on the standardization of austenitic stainless steels for hydrogen environment developed by the JRCM group members such as the Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation, the NSSC and the Aichi Steel were investigated with the evaluation by the NIMS.
The JRCM organized the JRCM group meetings periodically and the members of the JRCM group also attended the meetings held by the JPEC, the KHK and the Kyushu University including “The meeting for the analysis on the data base of mechanical properties of steels in hydrogen environment” presented by the Kyushu University, showing the close relationship between the two groups. Moreover, advices were made on the preparation and supply of steel materials produced by steel companies of the JRCM group used for the evaluation of mechanical properties in hydrogen environment by the Kyushu University and the JPEC.
In addition, the meetings between the JRCM group and the JARI were also held in order to exchange their information which is useful for establishing the international standard for the use of steels in hydrogen environment relating with automobile application.
