Subtheme1: Research and Development for Appropriate, Reasonable and Simple Method for Hydrogen Quality Control

(1)Development of Hydrogen Quality Control Guideline
We revised the hydrogen quality control guideline about gaseous impurities and particulates.

(2)Development of Hydrogen Sampling System and Hydrogen Sampling Method
Using manufactured high pressure sampling system, we sampled hydrogen gas in over 50 HRSs. Also, we developed surface treatment methods of low pressure sampling cylinder.

(3)Development of a Simple Analytical Instrument
We achieved analysis of 8 major impurity components using TOF-MS method with H2O monitor. Also, we achieved Subtheme1 objectives about time and cost for analysis.

(4)Development of Filters in HRSs for Particulates in Hydrogen
We conducted the gaseous test and the liquid test of filters.

(5)Verification Tests in HRSs
We conducted verification tests for hydrogen samplings from refueling nozzle in over 50 HRSs. Also, we confirmed the validity of TOF-MS method.

(6)Search for a New and an Innovative Analytical Method
We studied HEMS method and terminated search of HEMS method because the method is unable to achieve business objectives.

Sub-theme 2: Research and development of an inexpensive and simple method for Hydrogen Quality Control allowing further cost reduction

(1)Development of hydrogen gas sampling and analysis method using solid medium samplers
A sampling kit with non-liquid, solid medium samplers was considered. The basic constitution of the sampling kit was to include a dew-point meter, an oxygen analyzer, two gas sampling cylinders and three solid medium samplers.

(2)Development of the on-site gas sampling and analysis method
Analysis instruments and gas sensors for on-site gas analysis was researched. Methods for removing hydrogen to concentrate the impurities were also studied.

Sub-theme 3: International standardization in the fuel quality for fuel cell vehicles

It was important to make European people understand how important to keep the fuel quality specification (ISO14687-2) and need to consider the quality control issue separately. JARI took a convener-ship of ISO/TC197/WG28 and managed the progress of ISO19880-8 "Hydrogen Quality Control" which was into CD stage. It is expected to be published by the end of FY 2016 in order to contribute the EC market. JARI also participated into WG24 to input the information of its quality control.
Further, JARI was actively discussing through SAE in order to maintain the harmonization between ISO and SAE.
