Making an aerospace structure lighter provides many economic advantages such as improvement of fuel efficiency. In particular, weight reduction for aircraft engine is most important matter for fuel efficiency of aircraft operations. The new metal such as intermetallic compound is developed for increasing the conversion efficiency of aircraft engine. However, it did not achieve the weight reduction and high operation temperature of aircraft engine. Ceramic matrix composite (CMC) is possible to achieve not only weight reduction but also high operation temperature for aircraft engine parts. We have been developing the process method of CMC for aircraft engine parts. In particular, we are developing the new process to provide the 3D woven preform for improvement of mechanical disadvantage of CMC for engine parts. Recently, advanced ceramic fiber is developed to use of more high temperature area of aircraft engine parts such as high pressure turbine. However, advanced ceramic fiber is very brittle materials, so it would be became too difficult to provide 3D preform. In this study, we are starting to develop the process method of 3D woven preform by using advanced ceramic fiber. As the first step, we are developing the coating method for ceramic fiber for improvement of their weak break strength. Some of improvement can be achieved to improve the fiber strength, so we are continue to improve this coating method.
