This project team proposes a Y-configuration power router as a unit cell to easily construct a power delivery system to meet many kinds of user's requirements. The Y-configuration power router controls the direction and magnitude of power flow among three ports regardless of DC and AC. We made a prototype three-way isolated DC/DC converter consisting of SiC and GaN power devices that is a core unit of the Y-configuration power router and demonstrated the basic power flow control operation. The experimental results revealed that our methodology based on the governing equation was appropriate to the power flow control of the three-way converter. The development on a digital control unit to achieve cooperative phase-shift modulation (PSM) control of each power router was also conducted.

The expression for power flow control of the three-way isolated DC/DC converter was developed. Next, we fabricated a prototype three-way isolated DC/DC converter using SiC devices by assuming it was rated at 20 kHz, 400 V, and 10 kW and demonstrated control of power flow operation. Average transmission power of each I/O port was measured by using the power analyzer. The measuring points of power flow corresponded to theoretical points, so the experimental results revealed that our methodology based on the governing equation was appropriate to the power flow control of the three-way DC/DC converter.

We also made a prototype three-way isolated DC/DC converter using GaN devices by assuming it was rated at 100 kHz, 200 V, and 500 W and demonstrated control of power flow operation. Experimental results revealed that our methodology based on the governing equation was appropriate for the power flow control of the three-way DC/DC converter using GaN devices.

“Digital control platform design and unit fabrication”
For the energy routers installed at various locations to work cooperatively in the implementation of flexible power interchange in real time, it is necessary to measure the current and voltage amplitude and phase difference at each node and reflect the results in the PSM control of each power router. The control has a software layer, a platform layer, and a physical layer. The platform layer serves as an interworking between the software layer and the physical layer. We designed the digital control unit as the platform layer and implemented it in the prototype three-way isolated DC/DC converter.
