1. Effect of type of binder and curing method on resistance to freezing and thawing action
The freezing and thawing action is one of the main causes of slab concrete deterioration. It makes concrete broken into pieces. In this study, the effect of type of binder and curing method on resistance to freezing and thawing action was examined. In ordinary, the early hardening portland cement is used when PC precast concrete member is manufactured. The resistance to freezing and thawing action of concrete with the early hardening portland cement is almost as much as that with ordinary portland cement. However, the curing period to improve the resistance to freezing and thawing action is much longer when the early hardening portland cement is used. However, it was clarified that the use of viscosity increasing agent is effective in order to get the high resistance to freezing and thawing action at the earlier stage.

2. Mechanical properties of mortar with granulated blast furnace slag sand
In order to establish the constitutive law of concrete with granulated blast furnace slag sand, the mechanical properties such as fatigue failure, fracture energy and bending strength were examined. The bending strength of concrete is deteriorated because both bonding strength and fracture energy of the interface between cement paste and aggregate becomes lower by the action of freezing and thawing. However, the resistance to freezing and thawing action of concrete with granulated blast furnace slag sand is quite superior to that with crushed sand in mesoscale.

3. Estimation of salt shutting property by electrical resistivity
The relationship between electrical resistivity and effective diffusion coefficient of chloride ion in concrete by migration was examined in order to estimate the salt shutting property of concrete with granulated blast furnace slag sand. The electrical resistivity was measured according to JSCE K562. It was clarified that the salt shutting property of concrete with granulated blast furnace slag sand is superior to that with normal crushed sand irrespective of water to binder ratio or type of binder. Furthermore, it was clarified that the relationship between electrical resistivity and effective diffusion coefficient of chloride ion in concrete by migration is very linear.

4. Effect of quality of granulated blast furnace slag sand on salt scaling
The test method to estimate the quality of granulated blast furnace slag sand was developed. The small mortar specimen of 10x10x10 mm cubic is used for test. It is put in salty water and suffers from freezing and thawing action. When mortar with crushed sand is used, it breaks in pieces in 10cycles. However, when the granulated blast furnace slag sand is used, it is not broken till 50 cycles.
