The theme of this three-year (from 2014 to 2016) joint research collaborated by New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (abbr. NEDO) and H. Fukunaga Architect Research Institute is “The Project of Developing the Various Use of Photovoltaic Power Generation / The Exemplification of the Various Use of Photovoltaic Power Generation / entitled ‘A Two-crop System of Both Rice Farming and Generating Electricity’ “

1. The contents of this research and its outcome

(1) The time series observation and the test of the up-and-down mobility of the panel holders
Neither warp on the panels nor tilt of the holders has been found through this year. The maximum wind speed of this year was of 17 meters per second, recorded
at the typhoon in August. Also, we have inspected the up-and-down mobility of the panel holders.

(2) The improvement of the panel holders after due consideration of the construction
work and the operative efficiency
The panel holders which we use presently are installed using the weight of the soil that we have scooped out to a depth of 75 cm and its reaction force. The point of its improvement is to scoop out the soil more shallowly and to use a kind of ready-made concrete blocks as the counterweight in order to simplify the installation.

(3) The influence of the panels and holders on the farm work
Though we have installed the generating facilities in the paddy rice field, we have proved that we are able to work in the field, operating machineries under the panel holders by raising them 3 meters above the ground.

(4) The influence of the panel holders on the rice harvesting
There is no influence of the shade of the panel holders on the quantity of the rice harvesting. We have compared the average weight of the stubbles of rice from three areas; we have picked up the stubbles of rice from a control area and two areas of the testing field under the panels. The stubbles from one area under the panels weigh 97% of the stubbles of a control area, and the stubbles from another area under the panels weigh 83% of the stubbles of a control area. This degree of difference is within the error range and is not significant.

(5)The reviewing of the entire cost of this generating system
As to the entire cost of this generating system, we have initially estimated. Based on the power supply of present Mitsuse testing field, when it is widespread among the general, we have calculated at 21.6yen/kwh.

(6)Publicity
We have been holding the show case experimentations (15times) at the testing field, the lectures at some Rotary Clubs(5 times), workshops(6 times), in order to
promote and inform this project. Many concerned people from various places, such
as Chiba, Shizuoka, Nagano came to observe the testing field. Newspapers and magazines have reported this project over 10 times, TVs and radios have broadcast the changing scenery in Mitsuse 12 times.

(7)Schedule of the next year
1)Improving the third model, we will redesign the forth model.
2)We will try to estimate the entire cost of making, managing and in the end scrapping the supposed new ( forth) model, then try to set up the proper retail price of it.
3)We will try to hold down expenditure to install this entire generating facilities.
