We have been researching to develop photovoltaic and solar thermal hybrid concentration system and getting some results as follows. We have simulated several designs of low concentration photovoltaic systems to trap the diffuse light. Based on the simulation results, we fabricated a compact type low concentration photovoltaic system tracking by two axis rotation and started outdoor measurements. Furthermore, we installed a rotary heat engine to convert heat energy to electrical energy.
As agricultural applications, we have been researching the effect of the control in redox potential of soil with the application of microbial fuel cell (MFC) to suppress the loss of nitrogen fertilizer occurred via denitrification. We have obtained results that indicate there being an effect of MFC on lowering the nitrogen flux. In addition, soil disinfection by using hot water from a low concentration photovoltaic system are to be examined. This fiscal year, we examined the effects of agricultural mulch on soil disinfection.
