英文要約Title: Research and Technical Developments on Next Generation Ocean Energy Generator (Counter-Rotating Type Tidal Stream Power Unit) (FY2013-FY2017) FY2015 Annual Report

To utilize effectively several types of tidal stream in ocean, a counter-rotating type power unit, composed of tandem propellers and a double rotational type generator, has been developed. The power efficiency has met 42.3 % higher than the target 42 % of this year, through the following progresses and fruits in this year.
1. Hydraulic design of tandem propellers
The camber and the thickness of the blade element were optimized to get higher lift-drag ratio. The three front blades were twisted not to work at smaller radius but to work effectively at larger radius, and the five rear blades were twisted to work effectively regardless of the radius. The propeller optimized above takes the maximum efficiency of 45.1 % over the target.
2. Optimization of blade material and structure
Acceptable material and framework of the propeller blades have been designed, that is, the blade elements/framework made from SST are surrounded with CFRP sheets which are suitable for the marine circumstance.
To prevent corrosion of skin materials and attachment of barnacles, a superhydrophilic polymer carting was also developed.
3. Development of double rotational armature type generator
Cooling system with a heat pipe has been developed successfully, which radiates 38 % in amount of heat generation. Besides, the permanent magnet without an iron cover is attached directly to the inner armature. Such armatures with accompanying the above cooling system improve the efficiency drastically, and the the maximum efficiency is 93.9 % over the target.
4. Preparation of model power unit provided to verification tests
The model is composed of the tandem propellers whose front diameter is 1 m and the double rotational armature type synchronous generator, which is installed on one pile. The inner and the outer shafts are equipped with mechanical sealing systems.
5. Guarantee of dynamical stabilities
To suppress vibrations of the power unit, the software, which can predict the effects of cavitations and flow interactions, has been developedl. The rotating dynamics of the annular shaft system with the propellers, bearings and mechanical seals has also been developed, and then the safety operation of the above power unit was guaranteed.
6. Verification tests
The power model described at Item 4 was setup in the water tunnel with 4 m width and 1.7 m depth. The propellers starts rotating at the slower stream velocity, and the power unit takes the maximum output while the relative tip speed ?T is about 7.5, and is operated safety without whatsoever vibrations.
The radian force acting on the blade is tiny as compared with the allowable strength of the material and the structure. The forces acting on the pile are affected with the velocity in the stream direction, but are tiny in the horizontal direction.
