The objective of this study is to develop CMC component for aero-engines with a temperature capability of 1400 degC by applying the 3rd generation SiC fiber “Tyranno SA grade”. Thus, this study is composed of two parts: material development and component development.
The first part; material development, aims to improve the temperature limits of the CMC constituents and to establish an evaluation method in the specimen level. It was ascertained that the oxidation resistance of the BN interface coating improves by the post-heat treatment. Besides, the stability of the candidate material for the matrix was assessed by the exposure tests in the steam environments at high temperature and pressure. In addition, the temperature capability of erosion rig improved by replacing the metal jig with ceramic, and demonstrated the capability of the test over 1300 degC.
The second part; component development, focuses on the development of the simulation method to predict following phenomena, (1) warpage of textile during the forming process, and (2) damage accumulation within CMC components under mechanical loading. The reliability of the textile-deformation analysis improved by developing the automatic-position matching program and by expanding the pillar-extraction criteria. The damage prediction model based on the classical laminated theory was developed and enabled the prediction of the non-linear stress-strain relationship of the laminated composites.
