Summary:
The aim of this project is the development of production technology for breeding Japanese unique industrial microorganism "smart cell" at ultra-high speed by the consolidation of information technology and biotechnology, which dominates worldwide. There are three major challenges to achieve that goal.
The first challenge is the development of "High throughput synthesis, analysis and evaluation technology" consisting of high-precision omics analysis technology necessary for designing production cell models, long-chain DNA synthesis technology to effectively modify genes of microorganisms modify based on analysis results, high throughput technology for the construction and evaluation of microorganisms.
The second is to develop metabolic pathway design technology for new substance production, algorithm development such as gene expression network analysis for productivity improvement and subnetwork identification, information to contribute to the improvement of protein expression and activity. Furthermore, these technologies are integrated into as a system, "Gene sequence design system".
The third is to make sure the validity of the new information analysis system. In other words, it is to realize ultra-fast breeding by applying this gene sequence design system to industrial microorganisms such as enterprises. Furthermore, by demonstrating that it is effective for improving productivity beyond traditional breeding and creating new substance producing strains, it is to realize the development of new fields in the industry.
In fiscal 2016, 19 entrusted companies / universities and 11 re-entrusted parties began research and development on these challenges.
