Development and evaluation of on board hydrogen storage system

The materials those are used for the on board hydrogen system are evaluated. Using pressure-composition (pc) isotherm measurements, weight, volumetric hydrogen density, equilibrium hydrogen pressure, reaction rate and phase abundance and so on were evaluated. Kyushu University (KU) developed high pressure pc isotherm measurement equipment and measured the isotherms for MAXSORB and standard sample provided from US DOE.
Simulation of the on board tank has been done using the fluid analysis program (ANSYS Academic Research). For FY 2016, fundamental thermal management is analyzed. First half the fiscal year, low-temperature bench that is developed by ATSUMITEC for this project is simulated in a size of 50X50X20 mm. The results are reasonable except the pressure loss. However, after discussion with ATSUMITEC the value is recalculated and finally reached to acceptable one. In the latter half of the fiscal year the test vessel that is really used for the test is simulated. The thermal distribution views after 100 second of hydrogen introduction and release give the way to make homogeneous thermal distribution; reduction of reaction rate and/or improvement of thermal conductivity of the hydride bed.
