英文要約Currently, countries in ASEAN are facing environmental problems in regards to transportation such as air pollution, noise, and traffic congestion. As a solution, adopting electric vehicle technology as an alternative means of transportation has attracted strong interest.

In Philippines, in order to reduce its environmental impact, the country has focused on electric vehicles to replace gasoline tricycles, a typical short-distance transportation in the country. However, from a region point of view, only a limited impact is expected in regards to transporting efficiency since the current transportation routes has been optimized and shaped from a local point of view.

Under these circumstances, a transport system called Mobility as a System (“MaaS”), a combination of environment-friendly Low Speed Electric Vehicle (“LSEV”) and an advanced traffic control ecosystem, has been introduced to demonstrate efficient public transportation. Producing customer value to passengers and service providers (“operators”) and utilizing this as a showcase, we intend to spread and expand in and out of Philippines. Demonstration site is held at Intramuros, a landmark located in Manilla also known as an educational district, under the control of Intramuros Administration.

During this fiscal year, we have put in place 50 LSEVs and 17 EV charging devices, and built a central IT system according to plan. In addition, we have set up a mobile network system by connecting the operating system, asset management system, charging system and service platform system which are hosted in Japan, structuring a solid IT foundation of MaaS.

Utilizing this MaaS, a transportation operator controls entire operation that its drivers circulate a route of 2 to 3 kilometers while passengers get on and off at given bus stops. The operators were trained to use the central IT systems for proper operation management, and the drivers received driving trainings and ticket-scanning trainings before launching the service.

The service started in October along with real-time data acquisitions of location, mileage, battery, passenger information etc., to analyze the acquired data. In addition, we are making proper preparations for the full operation in FY 2019.

To drive this project towards the right direction and promote smooth progress, we held steering committee meetings in September and January with Intramuros Administration as well as related government agencies and companies. We also hold meetings on a regular and an as-needed basis to ensure quick resolutions of any material issues.

As for marketing, we introduced the concept of this project and held panel discussions at Smart Engineering Tokyo 2016, and issued press releases in Japan. In Philippines, we held an opening ceremony and engaged in publicity to the media.
