The progress of this program is summarized for each of the four major working items.
1. Kansei database: We are developing several kinds of Kansei database using our motives hair dryers and crane operation cabin. For the hair dryers, kansei databases represents such delight and kansei indices for handlability and aesthetics. A kansei database is also developed for crane cabin design. We developed a crane simulator for accumulating operator’s gaze fixation data using eye tracking device. The gaze fixation can be used as a good indices for representing easiness of operation and thus be used for developing the kansei database. These databases are visualized by our prototyped software, Delight Map Viewer.
2. Kansei Modeling: Our kansei modeling framework is based Modelica modeling language. However, Modelica itself is not suitable to be used as a design tool. We made system design of a more intuitive modeling tool for designers by which they can represent their concepts by combining parts (major components or functional units) which constitutes a product. According to the system design, a prototype modeling software has been developed and tested for simple product examples.
3. Kansei Integration: As an integration capability from 1DCAE (Modelica) models to Lattice Technology’s XVL was extended to regenerate simulation results computed in Modelica models in XVL environment. FMI (Functional Mock-up Interface) is used to transfer simulation results to XVL. This integration allows to visualize simulation results with detailed 3D models represented in XVL native 3D database.
4. Kansei Reverse Engineering: Development of basic algorithms of CT data segmentation which is the most fundamental function for the reverse engineering of assembly parts was completed. The software SegMo core based on these algorithms was developed and licensed to Zodiac. The Zodiac also developed data manipulation software for SegMo and GUI for users to conduct segmentation. The first version of this segmentation software has been tested by several companies.
5. Innovation Style: Our innovation style is of industry leading type where design issues for developing more innovative products of the industries are studied. In addition to the collaboration work with Tadano, we conducted a few delight design projects using our project’s results generated so far with some companies. These companies have a variety of products, office furniture, automotive cabin and digital camera. Through these collaborative research projects, we got feedback for our platform.
