By numerical simulation about motion of released water, combined deep water and surface water, no serious damage caused by OTEC is confirmed.
2) Conceptual design of huge OTEC plant
(a)Case study of 1MW onshore and 10MW offshore OTEC
Results of tank tests on 10MW offshore OTEC show that its motions in waves are enough law and safe for power generation.
The cost reduction roadmap from first 1MW OTEC plant to 10MW spread type OTEC plant was obtained by research of cost reduction on heat exchanger.
(b)Study of safety on offshore OTEC plant
Risks by use of ammonia on offshore OTEC are researched and sorted out as follows;
1.Risks and measures on Electricity Business Act
2.Risks and measures on Ship Safety Law
3.Evaluation technique for impacts by motion of floater
Also usefulness of remote monitoring and control are confirmed by research about existing technologies.
