For Cr-Mo steel applied to composite vessel liners, hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility was evaluated by various mechanical tests in 99 MPa hydrogen. It was confirmed that the hydrogen embrittlement resistance was good.The optimal liner shape combining low cost and long life was determined using FEM analysis and fatigue analysis. As the results of a trial manufacture show, it is possible to manufacture a composite vessel liner as designed. For CFRP construction, it was found that the original construction method didn’t generate any gaps between the composite vessel liner and the CFRP layer. Thus, the trial manufacture of a full-sized prototype composite vessel was successful.A hydraulic pressure test of the prototype composite vessel confirmed that the composite vessel liner and the CFRP layer made complete contact and the load was shared by the composite vessel liner and the CFRP layer as designed. Consequently, the manufacturing procedure of the Type 2 composite vessel is basically established.The contents of the design verification tests were also examined and a draft plan was prepared.
