The Third Phase of the Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program / Development of Smart Mobility Platform
Project overview
Project period: FY2023 to FY2027, budget: 1.87 billion yen (FY2024)
This project aims to build a platform that realize the safe, environmentally friendly, fair, and seamless mobility, which dynamically integrates both hardware and software of infrastructure that incorporates a wide range of mobility resources, such as private cars and cargo vehicles, as well as new mobility solutions to support traditional public transportation methods in light of transfer of people, goods, and services across cities and regions.

Research and Development
(1) Studies on strategies for redefining and introducing mobility services.
- Making a guideline of "re-design of mobility" project which aims to use mobility resources to the full extent to promote implementing sustainable mobility services at a higher level.
- Promoting the practical implementation of the "re-design" project to society by collaborating with local governments.
- Developing a strategy for an efficient and labor-saving logistics system due to both data linkage and standardization of cargo specifications.
(2) Research and development for redesigning infrastructure that supports mobility services
- Tackling with urban construction theory, technologies for achieving safe pedestrian spaces using environmental sensing and V2X technology, consideration of accident prevention measures such as emergency braking through data utilization, establishment of a data foundation for mobility and the creation of a digital sandbox for dealing with frequent accidents on residential roads and the loss of vitality in urban areas.
(3) Development of devices and mechanisms that support experimentation, implementation, and commercialization of smart mobility services
- Promoting social experiments by using the digital sandbox for redefining "mobility services" and implementing local mobility sources to society by re-design project.
- Building a system infrastructure that streamlines operational efficiency.
- Implementing trainings for individuals capable of handling regional mobility services.
