The Third Phase of the Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program / Development of foundational technologies and rules for expansion of the virtual economy

Project overview

Project period: FY2023 to FY2027, budget: 1.52 billion yen (FY2024)

The goal is to realize a prosperous life through the circulation of value from cyberspace to physical space, creating a domestic virtual economy with a scale of 1.6 trillion yen.

Research and Development

(1) Somatic Interverse Technology

In the field of somatic interverse technology, that is underdeveloped worldwide and where Japan has a chance to secure international competitiveness, research and develop technologies for mutual sharing of physical senses (proprioceptive senses and haptic senses) and sensory augmentation.

In addition, international standardization of evaluation scales for interverse and its services from the perspective of SDGs and ELSI, which will contribute to the dissemination of development results, will be conducted.

(2) Smart City with Interverse

Focusing on use cases such as healthcare and urban development that can leverage Japan's industrial competitiveness, an architecture for a city-type digital twin that allows stakeholders to participate will be developed.

(3) Interverse Service Infrastructure

Design a multi-scale architecture and develop a service platform that supports interverse services development and delivery and also enables multi-service collaboration and data federation.

(4) Talent Development to Support the Virtual Economy

Consideration and implementation of an overall plan and educational standards for talent development to support the virtual economy will encompass service design and business personnel.
