As part of a NEDO project, Obayashi Corporation developed a new light environment control system by adding a newly developed window blind control function into a conventional lighting control system based on the concept of “brightness perception people feel.” This control system, through integrated control of blinds and lighting, makes it possible to maintain a bright impression with low illumination and improve the comfort of the indoor lighting environment. To evaluate this light environment control system, Obayashi Corporation installed the new control system in the Kanda Fugen Building (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) where Showa Denki Co., Ltd. Tokyo Branch resides and demonstrated that daytime energy consumption on a sunny day can be reduced by 63%.
In the future, we plan to demonstrate comfort and all-day, year-round reduction in energy consumption of 60% and to develop new control technology such as task lights that will compensate for desk illumination.
