Announcement of Organizational Changes
－Strengthening Efforts in the Fields of IoT and Artificial Intelligence－
April 1, 2016
New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)
NEDO is pleased to announce that as of April 1, 2016, it newly established the Internet of Things Promotion Department, and it has renamed the Robot and Machinery System Technology Department as the Robot and Artificial Intelligence Technology Department.
In the Japan Revitalization Strategy which was revised by the Cabinet in 2015, measures to reform industrial and labor market structures based on expanded use of the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, and artificial intelligence were proposed. The Japanese government is thus further promoting the development of the IoT and artificial intelligence. For example, under the IoT Acceleration Consortium that was established in October 2015, several working groups, including the IoT Acceleration Lab, are actively supporting industrial activities. Relevant ministries and governmental organizations are also closely collaborating in artificial intelligence research activities.
Against this backdrop and based on the fact that the development of the IoT and artificial intelligence is expected to have a widespread impact on our society and every industry, NEDO has also reinforced its own efforts. For this reason, as of April 1, 2016, NEDO newly established the Internet of Things Promotion Department, and it has renamed the Robot and Machinery System Technology Department as the Robot and Artificial Intelligence Technology Department.
