Oxygen-Blown IGCC with CO2 Capture Demonstration Project Begins
-Aiming for 40% Net Thermal Efficiency with a 90% CO2 Capture Rate-

In order to reduce the CO2 emissions significantly from coal-fired thermal power plants, this fiscal year NEDO has begun a demonstration project for an oxygen-blown integrated coal gasification combined cycle (IGCC) with CO2 capture by installing CO2 capture equipment at an existing oxygen-blown IGCC demonstration test facility.

This demonstration project aims to achieve a net thermal efficiency of 40% (higher heating value basis) even on condition of a 90% CO2 capture rate, which is the same efficiency level of current pulverized coal-fired thermal power plants without CO2 capture.
