New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)

As part of a NEDO project, Sharp Corporation created a triple-junction compound solar cell that has achieved the world’s highest conversion efficiency of 31.17% in a solar cell module.

This success significantly surpasses the previous world record of 24.1%. The prototype module has a size of approximately 31cm per side, making it sufficient for practical use. In addition, with both lightweight and flexible features, the module is expected to be well-suited for applications on vehicles where not only cost reduction in power generation but also high efficiency and lower weight are critical.

NEDO will continue to support the development of high-value technical applications such as automotive equipment, with the goal of achieving a cost of power generation of 7 yen/kWh.
