Mizuno Corporation Successfully Improves the Impact Strength of CFRP Using CNTs
－Expanded Use Expected in Golf Club Products and the Industrial Sector－

As part of a NEDO project, Mizuno Corporation succeeded in improving the impact strength of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) material by utilizing carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Researchers successfully made a CFRP composite with CNTs, which has conventionally been difficult, by improving the dispersibility of CNTs. The first application of this new material is expected to be the development of new types of golf clubs.
While Mizuno Corporation plans to expand the use of the new material to manufacturing sports equipment such as rackets and bats, the company also aims to expand its applications in the industrial field.
NEDO hopes that the outcome of this project will accelerate the practical use of CNTs. NEDO aims to realize a low-carbon society by using the new material to achieve significant weight reductions and energy savings through application to vehicles such as airplanes and automobiles in the future.
