On November 14, NEDO will hold a kickoff symposium for the "Development of Production Techniques for Highly Functional Biomaterials Using Smart Cells of Plants and Other Organisms" (Smart Cell Project) in Tokyo.
This project, which started this fiscal year, aims to support the development of innovative biotechnologies to produce industrial materials such reagents, perfumes, cosmetics, and plastics from plants and microorganisms by leveraging the Japanese original genome editing technology independent of foreign technologies, as well as the latest IT and AI technologies.
The symposium will be held to identify the direction that Japan should pursue in a new trend in biotechnology with experts from industry, academia, and government.
