New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)

As part of a NEDO project, a demonstration test of a dam inspection robot developed by Q.I. Inc. and a bridge inspection robot developed by FUJIFILM Corporation will be conducted in Kanagawa Prefecture.

The demonstration test will be conducted at a dam and a road bridge within the prefecture and will verify the effectiveness of the respective robots' inspection support technologies. More specifically, at the dam, underwater pictures of the dam wall will be taken through coordinated operations of a self-propelled underwater robot suspended from another robot floating on the surface of the water. On the road bridge, a robot will capture and process images of the girders of the bridge as it moves underneath them.

This demonstration test is part of Kanagawa Prefecture's Robot Town Sagami initiative. Going forward, the two companies will aim for the early commercialization of their robots by partnering with Kanagawa Prefecture.
