NEDO Launches Development of Element Technology to Lower the Cost of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines
－Aiming for 20 Yen/kWh of Cost of Energy after 2030－
December 21, 2016
New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO)
NEDO will begin the development of element technologies for a floating offshore wind turbine system aimed at lowering the cost of energy by 20 yen/kWh after 2030.
In this project, NEDO will conduct multiple activities aimed at reducing the cost of the system, such as conceptual design of a new integrated wind turbine-tower-floater light-weight structure, studies on load mitigation in typhoon, wave tank model tests, and the evaluation of safety, reliability and feasibility of the system.
